Community Supported Art -- 2nd Pick Up Event -- Saturday, October 28, 2-4PM

Join us for the 2017 COMMUNITY SUPPORTED ART PICK-UP Event
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28th – 2-4 PM
Philadelphia Art Alliance at the University of the Arts
251 South 18th Street, Philadelphia, PA
Free and open to the public.

Grizzly Grizzly & Co. is thrilled to announce the second pick up event for the 2017 Edition of our Community Supported Art initiative. Like a Community Supported Agriculture program, Community Supported Art (CSA) supports a direct maker-to-buyer relationship between artists and collectors working and living in the Philadelphia region – shareholders have invested in the project and are now picking up their work at a series of receptions throughout the city. These free, public events are a chance to meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments and find out more about the project. This month, shareholders will be able to bring home the second two artworks of the season by Julianna Foster and Leah Bailis.

For the 2017 CSA, Julianna Foster has created an edition of artist’s books accompanied by a photographic print. The evocative project –entitled ‘lone hunter’ -- continues her investigation into narrative structure within a metaphoric, illusionistic space. Leah Bailis’s edition for the CSA is variable; she has fabricated a series of masks using reclaimed denim and other materials. Like the faces they reference, each human-scale mask is imbued with distinctive character and ultimately unique. One lucky shareholder will take home their new edition framed, courtesy of Irwin Art Frames. Every shareholder will receive one free raffle ticket with their share, but they can buy additional chances to win in this raffle that supports the project.

This pick-up event is hosted by the Philadelphia Art Alliance at the University of the Arts. During the reception, visitors are encouraged to view the exhibition ‘Remains,’ featuring CSA organizer, Mary Smull. This month’s choice of location celebrates the recent merger with University of the Arts, where Julianna Foster is faculty – and furthers our goal of creating cultural connections throughout Philadelphia.
